How to Keep Yourself Honest as an LPC in Texas and Beyond!
In order to be an effective counselor, it is imperative that you are honest with your clients. You are not there to judge them or tell them what they should do. Your job is to listen and support them as they work through their problems.
In order to give the client the best service possible, it isn’t always the right idea to tell them what they want to hear. It can be tempting to lie or withhold information, but this is deceitful and ultimately not beneficial. This can lead to a lack of trust between you and the client, and if they start feeling like they cannot trust you then they will not want to come back for more counseling sessions.
You need to be honest with yourself too! If something is bothering you in your life, don’t ignore it! If it starts affecting your work then it’s time for a break or get professional help.
