scientific research discussing the topic
This article will discuss the relationship between middle back pain and factors involved in the neck. This will explain the specific cause of the condition and how it can be corrected. They will also introduce recent scientific research discussing the topic.
It is very common for patients who initially come to my chiropractic office to say that they are experiencing severe pain in the shoulder blade areas. It may be difficult for them to realize that a related, Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) but less symptomatic, neck injury is lurking in the shadows. This can be explained by understanding how our bodies react to injury.
When a part of our body is injured, there is a natural response to protect that part. We all know that swelling in a sprained toe or ankle joint causes loss of normal joint movement. This is because the swelling, like a cast around a joint, restricts movement so that we don’t suffer more. Other areas, when injured, create a protective mechanism by producing muscle spasms. Although we don’t like muscle spasms, they limit the range of motion of the area so we don’t get injured further.
When the neck is injured, the muscles go into reaction. However, because these muscles are small, they usually do not produce much protective spasm. In contrast, the muscles of the upper back and shoulders are large and powerful. When they have a protective response, they will create a spasm mechanism that prevents harmful movement of the entire neck and upper back. Similarly, significant spasm of these large muscles produces severe pain
This is why lower back pain and neck problems are usually related.
A scientific study in the Annals of Rehabilitative Medicine, February 2020, details research that examined 78 people with chronic neck pain and abnormal curvature of the mid-back, decreased chest mobility and shortness of breath. The relationship between has been revealed.
Chiropractic management of middle back pain relief focuses on the whole person. Relief of should include locating the source of the complaint in other areas of the spine, such as the neck. Chiropractic adjustments to correct misalignment and weight management drinks misalignment of the cervical and mid-lumbar spine joints can reduce irritation and pinched nerves. This allows the muscle spasm to relax and enjoy the same pain relief results.Chiropractors focus on examining and treating the whole person to relieve pain. This is crucial in achieving satisfactory patient outcomes.
